And Farming Relates to Business...How?

This past week I spent some time with my extended family. They live in a very small town with many rural areas and a great deal of open land. A family friend had asked if we could help her on her farm. Being open-minded, I said why not? I love new experiences and learning new ways of life, so I figured it would be fun for me to see how this family friend lives! I must say, I was right.
I spent 3 hours shucking corn, breaking cobs and bagging corn kernels. I had a blast! I was fascinated by the fact that this was completely normal to our family friend. I was completely out of my element but made a concentrated effort to pick up the process quickly and complete the tasks I was given efficiently.
You may be wondering, why did I blog about this? Because it can so easily be applied to business! In a professional setting, I have no doubt that I will often be thrown into meetings or projects that I have no experience with. So how does one behave when given a workplace task or situation that is completely new to them? They make a concentrated effort to pick up the process quickly and complete the tasks they are given efficiently. This scenario perfectly demonstrates why I love new experiences! I see every opportunity and challenge as another situation to develop my improvisational skills and confidence in areas I otherwise may not have much experience.
