Goals

In High School, at the beginning of every year, there were always a handful of teachers who required that I create goals for the year. These goals were often academic, although they were sometimes personal or professional as well. At the time, I did not think much of these types of assignments. I figured they were helpful and an efficient way to measure success. I always completed them thoroughly and thoughtfully.

As I have now experienced my first two weeks of college, certain events have caused me to think about the question what am I working towards? What goals do I have for this year? I no longer have a teacher giving me points for answering this question, yet it is more important than ever.

Sometimes, we are so busy going through life that we do not stop to think about why we do what we do. Taking an hour to think about your goals, as well as how you plan to execute them, can make a major impact on your ability to achieve these goals and the efficiency of the route that you take in order to achieve them.

What are my goals? Sometimes, I feel that I have an infinte amount of goals. There is always something to be working towards, something to be experiencing and something to be improving!

Academically, my first and most obvious goal is to get my Bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University with a specialization in Accounting. My second goal is to graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.8. This is a tall task, but I am fully prepared to put in the work that is required. I also intend to graduate with Honors by continuing my participation in the University Honors program.

Professionally, I hope to obtain my Certified Public Accounting license by the age of 25. I also want to be a leader. I want to speak at conferences and share with people my philosophies in regards to the best way to collaborate with co-workers. Although less tangible than the others, I hope to put my heart and soul into my work and excel in all that is asked of me. Arguably most important of all, I hope to wake up every morning excited to go to work.

Personally, my biggest goal is to run a half marathon. Similar to getting my CPA, I would like to have this task completed before the age of 25.

What goals are you working towards? Have you done anything today in order to put yourself closer to achieving those goals?
